Homeschool WEEK 15 Recap: The LETTER O (for Malachi) and the NUMBER 2 (for Deacon).

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3rd


Malachi: O is for OCEAN


> Physical Therapy: Time in standing frame (38 minutes)

> Letter Journal: Practice writing the letter "O" in journal

> Video: "Sing and Learn the Letters of the Alphabet: Letter O" by Jack Hartmann (YouTube)

> Book: I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean! by Kevin Sherry (with AAC language modeling around "core words" on Malachi's communication device)


> Art: Decorating seashells with markers





> Occupational Therapy goals: Poke-A-Dot! Who's in the Ocean! by Melissa & Doug Toys -- These interactive books are great to help the boys work on using their pointer fingers with strength and accuracy. Especially for Malachi, strengthening his pointer finger supports his ability to use that same finger for his AAC communication device


> Book: Nerdy Babies: Ocean by Emmy Kastner

> Letter Journal: Practice writing name to finish "desk work"


Appointment: Wound Care Clinic for MALACHI at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital (Tacoma, WA)



TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4th


Malachi + Deacon -- "Snow Day!" theme


> Malachi Physical Therapy: Time in standing frame (30 minutes)


> Book: Nature Stories: Little Snowflake (with AAC language modeling for Malachi, focusing on "core words" such as "up" "down" "in")

> Occupational Therapy goals: Cutting skills to make paper snowflakes

> Craft: Build-Your-Own-Snowperson activity

> Snowperson cheese stick snack for Deacon



Appointment: Early Intervention / Birth-to-Three Evaluation for DEACON at local therapy center in our county -- It was determined that Deacon will qualify for service in speech and language, which we will schedule to begin soon.



WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th -- "Sick Day" with (Chill) Fun & Hands-On Learning!


Deacon: NUMBER 2

> Number 2 coloring sheet

> Snack time: Counting Cheerios and raisins by 2s



Other activities for both boys:


> Playdoh kit with stamps and cookie cutters

> Setting up a window birdfeeder outside our living room

> Wooden block puzzles -- sorting by shapes and colors

> Playing cars on "cityscape" floor mat

> Aaron Slater, Illustrator by Andrea Beaty


Year-Long Project: Discover Dairy Adopt-A-Cow

The boys have "adopted" a calf this year from a rural dairy farm and will be learning about farm animal care and wellbeing, sustainable farm management practices, and the dairy industry during 2024-25 school year.


> 4-month updates tracking the growth of our "adopted" cow, Sunset. We added her new growth marks to our charts and graphs




THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6th


Outing: Baby Story Time!

On Thursdays, Malachi and I take Deacon to a Baby Story Time program at our local library. It is hugely beneficial for Deacon to engage in the singing and dancing and to play with his peer group. Malachi enjoys the stories, too.

> Occupational Therapy goals: Line tracing and cutting worksheets

> Video: "Orangutans in Danger of Extinction" by Learning with Sarah | Happy Learning (YouTube)

> Manipulative: small Orangutan figurines -- one for each kiddo

> Orangutan coloring sheet

> Letter Journal: Practice writing name to finish "desk work"


Deacon: NUMBER 2

> "Number 2 Song" by Little Baby Bum - Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs (YouTube)

> Book: Ones and Twos by Marthe Jocelyn and Nell Jocelyn
