MONDAY, JANUARY 20th
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Special Event: Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration in Tacoma, WA
TUESDAY, JANUARY 21st
Outing: Forest School Tuesday
The boys will both be participating in a Forest School program for two hours every Tuesday morning. They are part of a large group of kids and will spend the time learning about nature and engaging in unstructured play.
Malachi & Deacon: M is for MUD
> Letter Journal: Practice writing the letter "M" in journal
> Book: "PJ Pig is NOT Messy" by Kaylene Neslen (incorporating AAC language communication practice of "core words" such as "yes" "no" "up" etc.)
> Sensory activity: Making mud bricks using soil+water and a square mold
> Art: Mud painting
> Hands-on Science: Making "mud slime" with real dirt! (Pinterest Inspo)
> Letter Journal: Practice writing name to finish "desk work"
Online Group: Drum Circle
The boys have long participated in a weekly online drumming class with Drum to LEARN, a nonprofit organization. The instructor is a child development specialist who combines lessons in music and rhythm with social and emotional learning and literacy.

Malachi: M is for MANATEE

THURSDAY, JANUARY 23rd
Special Event: I took Malachi to the Washington State Capitol to testify in support of proposed legislation (SB 5064) in the state Senate Committee on Health and Long-Term Care. The bill would create a Rare Disease Advisory Council, an important mechanism to support the rare disease community in our state and help inform future decision-making around medicine and healthcare.
Year-Long Project: Discover Dairy Adopt-A-Cow
The boys have "adopted" a calf this year from a rural dairy farm and will be learning about farm animal care and wellbeing, sustainable farm management practices, and the dairy industry during 2024-25 school year.

> Video tour of the Dan Maur Farm -- The dairy farm in Othello, WA, where the boys' adopted calf lives

FRIDAY, JANUARY 24th
Medical Appointment: Rehab / Physical Therapy Appointment at Seattle Children's Hospital to adjust Malachi's stander frame and restart a daily "standing routine"
> Building with blocks while practicing color identification and requesting colors using Malachi's AAC communication device
